• Who are the authors of Volume II?

DOiT vol.II is developed by NetMasterClass professional CCIE® staff headed by Val Pavlichenko and Andrew Caslow, each of whom possess over ten years of CCIE® preparation experience. They have trained thousands of CCIE® candidates and have authored the bestselling CCIE® preparation guide, Cisco Certification: Bridges, Routers and Switches for CCIE®’s.

• Are the labs in Volume II at CCIE® level and challenging enough?

Yes. Each lab takes at least eight hours to perform. The DOiT workbook was the first workbook dedicated solely to 8 hour Scenarios. Many people would say that the DOiT Volume II Labs are the most challenging RS labs on the market!

• What is the delivery format?

The Workbook is delivered online.

Once you have access to the workbook you would have access to 25 labs, each of which includes the following: Lab Scenario (pdf), Answer Key (pdf), Initial Configuration File (txt), SHOWiT Tool, GRAPHiT Tool, etc ...

How to use DOiT Workbook with Vertical and Horizontal Approaches

• Can I save and/or print the labs?

Yes. The DOiT scenario and answer key files are presented in PDF format. After you download the files, you will be asked for a password which is the same password you use to access the NMC Portal. The password is case sensitive. You can read these documents online, save them on your machine or print them.

• What is SHOWiT tool?

A quick way to review a POD with correct final configuration.

With SHOWiT technology you are able to query on-line the state of a test pod that has been loaded with the correct final configuration for each scenario. This allows you to quickly locate the final configurations for the lab. Simply go to SHOWiT, choose the lab, choose the piece of equipment, and type in the Cisco Show command and you will immediately have the configurations. SHOWiT supports over 1500 Cisco show commands.

• If I purchase DOiT Volume II when will I gain access to the labs?

You will have access to the DOiT lab workbook and all related features on-line by the next business day after you place your order.

Hardware Questions

• Where can I perform the DOiT Volume II labs?

You may rent NMC compatible POD from one of our rental partners or build your own POD

We strongly recommend you to check directly with the rack rental equipment companies prior to renting rack time to identify any unique aspects of the equipment in relationship to the DOiT lab scenarios. NetMasterClass does not take responsibility for any hardware issues or incompatibilities of those companies.

• Do you have Catalyst 3560 features in the workbook?

Yes. At the moment the first ten labs feature CAT3 and CAT4, which are 3560 Catalyst Switches. The material was updated so that you could practice new IOS features.

• I could not find the Cisco 3825 router in the lab hardware list. This router will be added by Cisco after January 1, 2006. How is NetMasterClass handling the issue?

At this point we do not see it as an issue.

• 3825 will be added sometime next year and nobody knows exactly when
• 3640 with the 12.4 code has all the IOS features you need, we have not heard yet that Cisco is planning to test the 3825 hardware specific IOS features anytime soon
• We do not want you to spend a ton of money on the new equipment while the 3640 can do the same job so far
• If we recognize that the Cisco is testing the 3825 hardware dependant features we will buy and install in our labs and slightly modify our scenarios.

• Does NetMasterClass use backbone routers in their DOiT lab scenarios?

We do not use the backbone concept in the DOiT labs

Since you have control over all routers it does not matter how you call them: backbone routers or just routers RX,Y,Z. We use the cabling topology connecting 6 routers and 2 switches (some labs use the new 4 switch topology since the Cisco changes announcement). You do not have to worry about extra routers, some backbone tasks are spread around DOiT scenarios, but it is always the same topology. We heavily use the backbone concept in our CHECKiT product line, that’s where you have to deal with the unknown, black box on the proctor side.

We do not see much usefulness of the backbone routers in the self paced training where you are given the backbone configuration. The backbone role in the real CCIE lab is to test your skills of how well you deal with the devices you do not have control over and you do not know their configuration. In the DOiT labs we included the backbone configuration is some scenarios and made it a part of them. The backbone concept is heavily used in our graded CHECKiT practice labs.
